Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalene Church
'with god's help - we can!'
Good morning Friends,
Following a recent announcement that places of worship could reopen for individual private prayer from June 15, the Government has now revised the date to June 13, and the Diocese of Ely has asked that we communicate the following if we are intending to open:
We have been asked to engage and communicate with worshippers and the wider community to explain what activity is permitted and what is still prohibited.
*Individuals or members of the same household may enter the building to make personal prayers and it is strongly advised that social distancing is maintained with other households. The fewer the people inside the building at any one time, the lower the risk of transmission.
*Individual prayer within a place of worship is defined as a person or household entering the venue to pray on their own and not as part of a group, led prayer or communal act. They should be socially distanced from other individuals or households. Collective or communal prayer and regular scheduled services are not permitted at this time as set out in Regulations. This includes a Minister of Religion or lay person leading devotions or prayer of any sort.
Alan and I have just completed the 'risk assessment' produced by the C of E, and are printing off notices as required, as I type! If you wish to go in please take note of the following:
Visitors will be asked to sanitize their hands, 'sign in' with contact details in case the health authorities need to contact you.
Please stay suitably 'socially distanced' if anyone else is in there.
Certain areas of the church have been 'roped off', there will be no sale of books, post cards etc.
Due to the cleaning procedures required, the lavatory and kitchen will be out of bounds.
So it is with joy (and a little trepidation), I will be opening at 9am every morning, and sanitizing and locking at 4pm (timings approximate) as from Saturday 13th June.
We are still hoping that services (without music or singing) can start on 5th July - but more on that later! God bless everyone and stay safe.
11am every Sunday
1st (& 5th) Sunday - Morning Prayer
2nd & 4th Sunday - Family Service
3rd Sunday - Holy Communion
The following measures have been put in place -
‘socially distanced’ seating in the Church - please wait to be seated.
Please use the hand sanitizers on the tables by the door as you come in. You will not have to sign in as we will keep a register of who is there - if you are not a regulare member, please give your name and contact details to one of the churchwardens.
Please pick up a pre-printed order of service to keep and bring with you next time as we are not allowed to use the Hymn and Prayer Books at the present time.
We are not allowed to sing at the moment, but we can sit and listen to a choir singing a hymn during the service.
Keep safe and well. God Bless.
